In 2025, KCI Construction became employee-owned, with an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). An exciting moment for the company, and a big change for their team, one that they wanted to roll out as positively as possible.

KCI put together an Ownership Culture Committee to help explain to employees how their stock options in the ESOP work. From Playwell Bricks, they imagined a visual aid that was on-brand, fun, and positive. Ideally, their custom set would be something their employees could build onto each year for six years, when they would be fully vested in their ESOP.

The trick was making each of those six components something fun and complete on its own.

Playwell Bricks designed a construction site for KCI’s special set, beginning with a small pad and machinery, which gradually grows in size and pieces of equipment until the set is complete with a full construction site.

“This is more than a model. It’s a reminder that every day you show up, you’re building something that belongs to you,” KCI wrote into the instructions of their set. With this custom Playwell Bricks set, the KCI construction team has a buildable, tangible, and display-able representation of their own ESOP vestment for their employees.
