Hydro One is an electricity provider in Ontario, Canada. They handle transmission and distribution across the province and have since the early 1900’s. They certainly know what they’re doing… but how could show that in a fun and dynamic way?

Hydro One was searching for a way to show just how much their services contribute to the everyday of Ontarians for a corporate workshop. Not just anything would do, either. Hydro One wanted accuracy, so they needed to work with someone who was willing to learn was necessary to make this happen.

A custom Playwell Bricks set that combined the various elements of Hydro One’s services quickly proved to be the best solution. Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang was happy to learn how an electric substation worked for this design. “While compromises were inevitably made, the logic and components are intact and quite educational, if you ask me!” says Eric.

The final custom hydro station set had several sections: beginning with the hydro trucks and minifigs, the electrical poles, the substation itself, and three areas to represent the different areas that use electricity to function: industrial, commercial, and residential.
