Branson, Missouri, is an American city in the Ozark Mountains with no less than three lakes, an historic downtown, live theatre venues, and an award-winning theme park. A true tourist destination, the city is also celebrating its nation’s historic 250th birthday this year.

Playwell’s contact at Branson explained that the city had a whole year of events planned for the U.S.A.’s birthday celebration. They wanted to commission a family-friendly, limited-edition set that they could give out to key stakeholders. This set should represent the city while also celebrating the historic event.

The client ultimately decided that they would like their custom set to be a build of their city icon, a calligraphic writing of the name Branson, with a focus on the B and a smattering of stars throughout in a way that recreated the country’s flag. It was a simple enough request, but for Playwell’s designers, creating something this curved out of bricks is extremely difficult.

Designer Eric Dubois Yang called in the team for suggestions on creating this set. He was able to recreate the look the client wanted, but it was above the parts budget that the client had set. After a few compromises, like trading the white stars for a single red one, and working closely with the client, he was able to get it closer to the original parts count. Ultimately, the client signed off on the difference, happy with their set.
