The Extra Miles Beyond the Build

At Playwell Bricks, we know that every custom set has a story, not just in the finished build, but in the journey it takes to get there. Behind each carefully crafted brick design lies a web of tight deadlines, unexpected hurdles, and moments where we do whatever we can to rise to the occasion and ensure our clients are delighted.

LOGGING MILES IN EUROPE

A recent project for a major event in southeastern Europe captures this spirit. The client had big plans: three different vendors were set to deliver promotional items for their event. But when crunch time came, Playwell Bricks was the only one who followed through. 😯

From the start, we were faced with an incredibly tight timeline. While our standard production schedule is typically around 12 weeks, this project required an accelerated turnaround, leaving us with far less time than usual to design, produce, and ship the sets. On top of that, there were client-side delays that pushed the schedule even closer to the edge.

Just when we thought the toughest part was over, the shipment faced a major obstacle: it got stuck in customs upon arrival. The receiving hotel refused to accept the packages, leaving our client in a stressful, last-minute bind. Rather than shrug and say "too bad, that’s out of our hands," our team sprang into action. We worked around the clock, coordinating a custom broker to retrieve the shipment from customs and personally deliver it to ensure it arrived in time for the event.

It wasn’t easy. In fact, it required a 24-hour logistical miracle. But this is the kind of challenge we embrace. For us, it’s not just about creating a fun, tactile, and memorable custom set. It’s about delivering a seamless, worry-free experience for our clients, no matter what hurdles appear along the way.

SOME PAST MILES

It’s not the first time the team has had to pull a fix out of thin air. In fact, learning how to fix issues was a big part of Jason Pyett’s education as CEO of Playwell Bricks.

One of his early commissions, the epic Brookside Mansion, was a wedding anniversary gift. After designing, building, and gluing the model together, Jason drove it to the American border, headed for Indiana, when he was turned away. Jason scrambled and found a solution to get the mansion into the U.S., only to discover that the custom agents had smashed it when they were going through the van. Somehow, Jason overcame this hurdle too, with bags of bricks, some very good friends, and an absolute refusal to let the client down.

Then, a few years ago, he made a mistake ordering stickers for a project Playwell did for Toptal. “I ended up having to hire a courier to hand deliver the stickers to the fulfillment center. In the end, it cost me about $150 to get $10 worth of stickers,” he recalls, wincing. “Twice. But I had everything buttoned up,” and the sets arrived in time for the conference.

conclusion

It’s those misadventures and mistakes that gave Jason the skills to handle the hurdles as they arrive. Stressful in the moment, but once solved, they become a part of our story, giving us the tools to handle the future.

Sometimes the real story lies in the lengths we went to make sure our beautiful custom sets arrive in the first place. We don’t just design bricks; we build trust, solve problems, and forge connections that last far beyond a single project.

If you’re looking for a partner who won’t just deliver, but will go above and beyond to make your vision a reality, Playwell Bricks is here to help. Because when we say we go the extra mile, we mean it, overseas and beyond.
